Magazines Part 2

Blog #4- Magazines Part 2

1. Early Magazine covers were mainly illustrated since it was the only way to create magazine covers.  Most magazines covers stayed this way until 1925. These made the magazines very unique since no other magazine had the same image. Type based covers were also around even though they are rare and usually present shocking news.

2.  The Poster Cover showcases a main image and usually is what grabs the readers attention. This is the most common approach that most magazine publishers use. Magazines with people such as celebrities on the front cover tend to sell more. There are many different ways to use this type, for example having the model look away or look directly at the camera, or have a certain face expression to show the views of the magazine on the subject they are covering.

3. Pictures married to type shows both what the magazine is going to be talking about but also showcases a main image. For example, it may have a photo of a model but there are words around her on maybe on her that are talking about the subject of the magazine.

4. In the forest of words is a rare type of cover that uses only words on the cover and no image. This is usually used when there is a subject that is very strong on its own and does not require an image to hook the reader. These types of covers are powerful in how the type is presented. There can be a beauty in the type letting it be strong on it's own.
