Architecture Preview Assignment

A. Eden project, United Kingdom



1. The architect is Nicholas Grimshaw.
2. It was built in the year 2,000.
3. It is located in the Botanical Garden, England.
4. You can visit the building.
5. It costed around $141 million to build.
6. The building was built to fill up a very large dead area.
7. I chose this building because just seeing the name sounded very intriguing. Once actually searching the building, I loved the unique features and how it almost looks like Epcot in Florida. The building is very interesting as most are not shaped in this way, especially on the side of a hill. The buildings are in a beautiful area.

B. National Centre for the Performing Arts, China


1. The architect is Paul Andreu.
2. This was built in July, 2007.
3. It is located in Beijing, China.
4. It is open to the public.
5. It costed around 3.2 million Yuan.
6. The building was built to hold major performances.
7. I chose this building because I love performing Arts centers. Once looking up the building, I found that it is beautiful. I love the unique shape and how it sits on the water. This would be an amazing area to see a performance.

C. Strong National Museum of Play, USA


1. The architects are CJS architects.
2. This was built in 1969.
3. It is located in Rochester, New York.
4. It is open to the public.
5. I wasn't able to find the cost of constructing the building.
6. The building was built to let kids play and bring imagination.
7. I chose this building because I saw the words Museum of Play and thought it sounded interesting. I love the large blocks at the entrance of the building. The pop of color makes the building interesting, along with the glass building behind it. This looks like a really fun place to visit.

D. The Ufo House, Taiwan


1. I could not find the original architects but the president of a local beer house decided to continue with the building until the project seemed hopeless.
2. This was built in 1978.
3. It is located in Sazhi District, New Taipei City, Taiwan.
4. It is not open to the public, but many urban explorers and photographers go to take the haunting photos and explore the abandoned buildings.
5. It costed around $24 million.
6. The building was built to be a vacation resort and were marketed to American Military officers coming off the East Asian postings.
7. I chose this building because When I saw UFO in the title I knew it had to be interesting. The buildings are chilling as they look like something straight out of a scary movie. I love things like this as they are very interesting. Also, once reading the backstory the buildings became even more chilling.


E. Habitat 67, Canada



1. The architect is Moshe Safdie.
2. This was built in 1967.
3. It is located in Montreal, Quebec.
4. This is open to the public.
5. It costed around $140,000 Canadian dollars.
6. The building was built to integrate suburban homes with economic and modern buildings.
7. I chose this building because I thought the fact that it is called Habitat 67 is very interesting. The building lacks much color but, it has a very interesting structure as the apartments are all very different. The buildings are very chaotic as many jut out farther than others. The buildings bet a nice view of the water, bridge, and the city.
